Hello There, Today's card of the day on Snapchat was (See above) "Follow your Dreams". It's a pretty card and seems like the simplest of ideas, right? Except that for most of us it isn't. We are assaulted throughout the day with things vying for our attention. The TV, the internet, co workers, friends, family, partners, radio, advertisements, and the list goes on and on. So with all of this constant chaos it is easy to actually loose track of what makes you happy and what you dream of doing. I'm going to share a Bliss technique for getting back in touch with your Higher Self and the keeper of your dreams. This technique has been helpful for my coaching clients and I think it will help you, too. Start by finding a quiet place to meditate for five minutes. Clear your mind or listen to a guided meditation (I have one here that is only 2 minutes long). Once you have calmed your mind and are feeling less stressed ask yourself, "What do I truly desire?" and "What is important to me?" Listen, really listen. You might be surprised at what pops into your mind. It could be something like: My children, my partner, moving, work, starting a new career, painting, peace of mind, being healthy, music, being free, traveling, a new car, gardening, etc. There is no judgement. Immediately write down the top five things that were given to you. Don't worry if you didn't hear five, or had many more. We are going to focus on five to begin this shift. Now take a look at your daily schedule, does it contain any of these things? No, or perhaps not all five? Then it is time to rearrange your schedule to incorporate all FIVE of these desires into your every day life. As an example: you may want to travel and it may not be possible to travel every day, but you can start planning a trip and researching your destination, setting a budget and reading reviews or working out a schedule for small day trips, etc. Or it could be that you want to learn a new piece of music, start by scheuling time in daily to pratice. No matter how busy you are you can find a bit of time for these things. If you do not then they will become lost in the shuffle of day to day life, other people's agendas and Netflix weekends. (You know I'm right.)
What we focus on we become. Life is lived in tiny moments, day by day, with no promise of tomorrow. We have a tendency to not want to schedule our "fun" because somewhere deep down we don't think it is important. But guess what? Science has shown it is important for both your mental and physical health. Following your dreams and desires is the best way to live a fulfilling life. Make an effort TODAY to begin this practice and let me know how you feel after a week. What is it like making time for your dreams? Are you less stressed? Sleeping better? Feeling happy? What obstacles did you run into? I'd love to hear your experience. I know if you can incorporate your dreams into your life, you will be moving closer to a fulfilling and overall happier existents.
