With Christmas over and the new year right around the corner, many of you may be feeling a bit down. I want to talk to you about food, water and your mood level. I think everyone has heard "You are what you eat," but do you really understand how important food is to overall health? Take a Bliss Challenge: This week research for yourself the effects of a healthy diet vs a poor diet. (I will be a resource too, so check back for tomorrows post.) Start a file for your findings and do your best to up your water intake. Include this affirmation in your daily practice: "I nourish myself with water, exercise and healthy food." Easy right? But the positive impact these actions are going to have on your life are immense. Did you know the type of food you eat can raise or lower your serotonin levels? Serotonin is a chemical in the brain that makes you feel good and can have a lasting effect on how you feel throughout the day. Serotonin is a natural chemical that is made in the brain from the amino acids tryptophan. The more serotonin - the better you feel. Foods that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids can aid in fighting depression because they helps to raise low serotonin levels and lift your mood. Choosing foods like walnuts, ground flaxseed, cherries, oranges, kiwis, pineapple and fish may help to raise your serotonin. Plus these are delicious foods! Another key to lifting your mood is drinking more water. When we are dehydrated we do not function well. Thinking becomes foggy, we become moody and our over all performance is impaired. How much water do you really drink in a day? Not coffee, not cola drinks, not juice, not tea, but actual pure water? Make time over the course of this week to write down how much water vs other drinks you are actually ingesting. Also track your mood levels in your Bliss Journal. Eating better and staying hydrated are simple steps you can take today to feel better. I look forward to exploring this further with you. Have a Blissful weekend, Sarah Parker Thomas, RRMS File under #Nutrition #Health #Mood #Depression #Bliss-Challenge Hello friends,
I hope you are all well, happy and enjoying yourselves this week. I was recently speaking with a Bliss Superstar Client about Self Love. Self love is not being narcissistic, its about taking care of and treating yourself with loving respect. For many people this is a completely foreign concept. Can you Imagine a time of Self Love? What would it feel like to actually Love yourself? Would you take your health seriously? Would you commit to personal growth? Would you begin respecting yourself? Would you stop pointless relationships? Would you debate with scholars? Would you stop settling for crumbs? Would you finally move? Would you detoxify your body? Would you stop blinding following the media? Would designer shoes stop mattering? Would you start reading factual books? Would you accept others for who they are? Would you stop judging yourself? Would you stop worshiping money? Would you meditate regularly? Would you end toxic relationships? Would you start appreciating nature again? Would you commit to helping others? Would you finally forgive yourself? What would you do? You can let the past go and move forward into a state of self love and empowerment. Why not begin the journey to self love today? I'm here and ready to walk with you. I'm excited to see where you go on your journey. Much love, Sarah Circular Thinking and Problem SolvingDo you find yourself stressed and unsure what to do next? ‘Circular Thinking’ can actually be the problem or a big block in moving forward. What is Circular Thinking? Here is an example of being caught in the loop of Circular Thinking: “I want to move; to be able to get a better job. Can’t move until I get a better job. I need more money to move. I can't move till I get more money. I need a better job to get more money. I need to move to get a better job.” Do you see? Sometimes our brains latch onto this type of thinking and it just goes round and round and round. This can last for hours or even days. And thinking like this doesn't help. It doesn't help us solve any problems or move forward. This type of thinking uses up time and keeps us from actually focusing on the real problems. What to do? Identify if you are caught in the loop of Circular Thinking and then stop it. Is this you? Are you currently caught in a never ending loop of circular thinking? Take a Bliss Challenge! Write down what you are thinking and circle each one. An example would look something like this: Next go back and draw out the 'whys': Why are you unhappy at your job? Why do you really need to move? Be honest, also go with the first thought and try not over analyze your answers. No one is going to see this but you, so be honest. Example: At this point we are starting to see some new ideas and reason to emerge, good job! Now keep going. Now you have some concrete information to work with.
Maybe the problem wasn't what you thought the problems was? Step back when you reach this point and see the BIG PICTURE. This will allow you to see your options and make better decisions based on facts and not on Circular Thinking. Once you get off the merry-go-round of Circular Thinking you will be able to see the problem differently, then you can plan a solution and not just be caught in the loop of suffering. Want more? Hello Friends, The Spiritual Path is not a path for the frail of heart. Accepting the challenges and doing the work is some of the most demanding work you will ever do, but it also the most rewarding. When you begin work on your Spiritual Journey, everything in your life benefits. Your career, your relationships and your health all begin to change. The way you see the world changes. As your outlook shifts, so do your priorities and your dreams. Small irritates are let go and new love is found. Healing can take place on a profound, deep level and your soul can bloom again. As you explore what it means to walk the 'Path of the Heart' your hearts begins to expand and heal. Gratitude can replace misery and bitterness. Bliss becomes your daily state, as you accept people and events for what they are and not waste time trying to force things. My Native American friends like to say, "When you are ready the teacher will appear." If you are ready to let go and do the work I am here. Let's make this next year about you, and reaching your full potential. Wishing you peace and bliss this weekend, Sarah Hello friends,
So often we venture into a relationship, a new job or even just picking a cell phone plan and as we are trying to make the best decision feel pressured from others. When we do not listen to our own inner voice, or pick up on the clues our bodies are suppling us, often we end up disappointed or unhappy. Does this ever happen to you? Do you ever end up regretting your decisions? It does not have to be this way. As one progresses further on the Spiritual Road they come to understand that we already possess great "knowing". By this I mean often our bodies, subconscious and intellect "know" a bad idea when they hear one. All we have to do is learn to heed this inner voice, but often we overlook or push past these warnings. When we ignore these warnings and date the wrong person, take a job that will not make us happy or get trapped in a bad cellular plan (for two years) we suffer! So all joking aside, what do we do? With practice we can further develop our own inner voice and learn to head the signs our bodies give us. Do you ever get "butterflies" or have a "gut" feeling about something? What happens when you go against those feelings? Most often, things don't work out, do they? Meditation and techniques to calm and center the mind are very helpful in building the repartee needed to strengthen this ability. Decision making can become easy again, as you learn to seek guidance from your body and your higher self. Stress levels go down, as you stop second guessing yourself and move more in synch with your actual goals. So when in doubt listen to your own inner guidance. What reaction is your body having to the idea presented to you? Ask yourself how you really feel about the situation and then follow your own inner voice. I can help you develop a personal plan to strengthen your own inner voice. If you are ready for a change, lets discuss it today. Wishing you a Blissful week, Sarah #Spiritual #Healing #Life #Coach #Decision Hello friends, Did you know that men and women process stress differently? We do, but research shows that we all have certain life events that are traumatic and life changing. These events and how we cope with the stress involved greatly dictates our overall health and our life experiences. In 1967 medical researchers Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe completed a study on how 5,000 individuals reacted to the events in their lives and complied the results. They developed the The Holmes-Rahe Social Readjustment Rating Scale or HRRS. It is still used today to assess your overall stress level. There are four major types of stress; frustration, conflict, change, and pressure. Most of the 43 life changing events listed below don't happen every day, (thankfully.) But research shows that the higher your score, the greater the chances you are of developing a stressed related illness. Following this scale add your total score. How stressed are you? Many of these stressors are out of our control, but yet how we cope with stress is key to our health. Some of the negative forms of coping are; giving up, blaming oneself, aggression, indulging, and defensive coping. Defensive coping, for example, is also known as defense mechanisms- or "reactions". These reactions are largely unconscious and are used to protect oneself from unpleasant emotions, such as anxiety and guilt. In defense coping people often avoid stressful situations by “distorting reality so that it doesn’t appear so threatening” (Weiten). Another common type of negative coping is Indulging. Indulging often leads to “unwise patterns of eating, drinking, smoking, using drugs, spending money, and so forth” (Weiten) Which can also add MORE stress. If stress is left unchecked it can develop into medical problems including depression, asthma, colds, cancer or heart disease. But there are many constructive coping methods to help you handle stress.
These include:

According to a growing number of experts, the ingredients found in common cosmetics and beauty products could pose a serious risk to your health. Your make up could be affecting your mood, contributing to hormonal problems and contain known cancer causing agents. Recent research found toxic chemicals in shower gels, eyeshadows, lipsticks and soaps. Some of these ingredients have been linked to cancer, hormone changes, birth defects in unborn children, increased risk of miscarriages and serious allergic reactions. Should we really be concerned? According to the Good Housekeeping Institute, we absorb roughly 60 percent of everything we put onto our skin. Products such as eyeshadows and mascaras can enter our bodies through the soft membranes covering our eyeballs; and we all know to watch inhaling perfumes, hairsprays and the risk of nail polish, but did you know toxic Formaldehyde-releasers are used in a wide range of cosmetics? How knowledgeable are you of what is really in your products? What to Do? Take a #Bliss Challenge: Become more knowledgeable about your beauty products and switch to natural, healthy alternatives. Do not assume products are safe to use because they are for sale. Read the ingredients and KNOW what you are ingesting. Don't actually know what the ingredients listed is? Google to the rescue. Also check out this Site for a pdf of the "Dirty Dozen" or most common toxic ingredients in USA and Canadian beauty/home/cleaning products. Become knowledge about ingredients and the effects these chemicals have on your body and then step up and use natural products. As you switch to certified organic and healthy, natural products note how your mood changes. Also take note of any physical changes, such as swelling, burning and itchy patches that suddenly disappear. Also many women report fewer headaches and less irritability when they switch to non-toxic alternatives. Win-Win! Make the change today and commit to taking better care of yourself! It's time to Love yourself and your body! Make a point to practice self care (and love) by putting your health first and becoming more knowledge about these products and picking better alternatives. You are so worth it! Sarah #Bliss #Health #Selflove #Beauty |
