If there’s one thing we know about goals, they have to be SMART, right? After all, that’s what we’ve been told for years. The only thing that matters is that your goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. While that looks great on paper, (and clearly it’s easy to remember) it is the kiss of death for entrepreneurs. Think about it. Do you want to be stuck with “attainable” and “realistic” goals when what you really dream about is a 3-day workweek, frequent international travel, and enough money so your partner no longer has to be tied to their life-sucking job? Seems pretty clear that those safe, smart goals aren’t going to get you there. Consider what happens when you set an “attainable” goal of earning 10% more than you did last year. You might work 10% more. You might spend 10% more on ads or product creation. You might even reach out to 10% more potential clients. All good advice, but…it will not fund your family’s international vacation. An increase of 10% will not change your life situation in the way you need.
Setting those goals, it’s likely you will be able to attain about 10% increase or more. It is very likely you will be able to leverage up, rather easily, actually 10%. “Not bad!” you say. After all, that was your goal. #WIN Right? But did that 10% goal inspire you to work harder? Or did it create a subconscious ceiling on your earning potential that you are then unable to break through? Rather than focusing on goals that are attainable and realistic, savvy entrepreneurs know that the key to incredible success lies in creating lofty goals that feel out of reach—maybe even UN-attainable. This is how you manifest your dreams! They don’t strive to earn 10% more than last year. They want 50% or even 100% more. They stretch themselves. They find new—and better—ways to do things, so they don’t have to work twice as hard, but they remain open to the possibility of doing so—at least in the short term—when its necessary. Of course, you cannot simply declare crazy goals and expect the universe to hand them to you. If you want to learn how to manifest like a MASTER I have several programs to help you change your mindset. (Visit some of out classes here.) Speak soon, Sarah If there’s one thing that holds promising entrepreneurs back from launching their business, it’s this: a lack of confidence in their products. Sure, you think that new course or workshop is a great idea, but how do you know it will sell? Imagine spending weeks or even months of time—plus the cost of document design, video editing and all the other pieces that go along with it—only to discover it’s not what your audience wants or needs. How frustrating would that be? You don’t have to leave it to chance, though. There are plenty of ways to test your idea before spending the time and energy on a full launch. Just Ask This is the simplest way to get a feel for what your market needs and wants. Simply ask them. Create a survey with Survey Monkey (or even a Google form) and send it out to your mailing list. For best results, keep it short, but do ask:
Listen to Their Complaints If you have a community (or are part of one) of ideal clients, pay attention to what they’re asking about the most. These are the things they need help with. For example, if you’re a business coach and your Facebook group is filled with questions about running Facebook ads, then clearly there is a need for some training in that area. Learn From Your Competition Hopefully you have a list of competitors and you’re reading their blogs and emails, and lurking in their Facebook groups. This is a great way to gain insight into what they’re doing—not to copy them, but to discover what’s hot right now. Remember, there are enough customers out there for everyone. I have had my competition purchase my paid products as well. Again, you should never copy anyone, but you can either:

Over the last few years working with successful entrepreneurs and first time business owners I’ve come to realize It’s not money, or brilliant ideas, or even powerful friends. It’s all about personal ATTITUDE. Now don’t get me wrong, all of those things (and more) are nice to have, but they’re not a requirement of success. What is a must-have, though, is a good attitude. Without the proper mindset, you’ll constantly be battling your own brain, and that’s exhausting and totally non-productive.
But a simple mindset change can make all the difference. Never Let Fear Drive Your Decisions Too many would-be entrepreneurs operate with a scarcity mindset rather than approaching business from a place of abundance. Rather than telling yourself that you can’t afford to hire a virtual assistant or work with a coach, try reframing your thoughts. Rather than thinking, “I can’t afford to attend that event,” ask yourself, “How can I earn the money to invest in this trip?" Rather than saying, “I have to do everything myself because I can’t afford to hire a VA,” remind yourself that your hourly rate potential is much more than you’d pay a virtual assistant. Then fill those hours you’re saving by outsourcing with money-making tasks of your own. By reformatting your thoughts, you’ll turn that negative money talk into positive solutions that will help you grow and as you grow so does your business! Shifting mindsets is my specialty and when we work together there is no limit to your business success! Yesterday's blog post was about understanding what panic attacks are and today we continue on with this topic.
Methods For Stopping a Panic Attack Not every method will work for every individual, and you might find other coping mechanisms that work better for you. These are suggestions based on a combination of tips from professionals, exercises that have worked for my clients and things others have done to help reduce their attacks. Practice Breathing Exercises This simple breathing exercises allows your mind to focus on your breathe as you oxygenate the body. Feeling like you cannot breathe is a common symptom for people who suffer from panic attacks. A great breathing exercise to try is to concentrate on your breathe. Begin by taking slow inhales of breath through the nose, and open your mouth and exhale. Breathing out slowly like you are blowing out a candle. Never push or strain your breath. This will become easier the more you practice. I suggest you practice every day, so that when a panic attack happens you can quickly breathe through it. Just Say NO Coping words and statements are very helpful for someone with a panic attack, especially early on when you start experiencing the first symptoms. If you are someone with an anxiety disorder that leads to frequent panic attacks, it is really important to come up with a coping word or phrase that you use as soon as you feel it coming on. It is meant to get you back to reality and let you understand it is a panic attack your mind has created, not a stroke or a heart attack. Many people will shout the word NO or STOP, while others tell themselves it will be okay, that it is not real. Count Backwards From 100 When you are mid-panic attack, saying the coping phrase might not work at this point. This is when you need to get your mind to a more relaxed state. One way to do that is to focus on something that distracts you, such as counting backwards from 100. This can be helpful when you are in a situation where having a full-blown panic attack could be dangerous, such as if you are currently driving a vehicle. Before you can pull over, you need to make yourself safe, so counting backward from 100 can be useful. Distract Yourself Find something that will distract you from the worried thoughts and feelings, whether that is listening to music, watching a movie or television show, or talking to someone on the phone. This can take a little more time finding what helps you the most, but as soon as you shift your focus you should experience relief. I salute you in taking the time to learn about panic attacks and would suggest that you continue learning as much as you can. More and more studies are confirming the theories that nutrition also plays a part in panic attacks, as well as environmental factors. If you would like to explore other options for combatting stress and anxiety or to learn more about the nutritional connection diet has to anxiety and overall health, I’m here. Why not book an introductory session today? What do you have to lose? Speak Soon, Sarah If you have ever felt a sudden rush of anxiety and worry, you know it’s unpleasant, but combine mental and physical symptoms such as a racing heart or difficulty breathing, then you know how awful and frightening a panic attack is. There are many reason people experience panic attacks, from grief, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) to being in a highly stressful situation.
Some people suffer from chronic panic attacks, typically with no warning and no triggers, while for others this could be a temporary occurrence related to a specific event. Visiting a physician, public speaking or giving a live presentation could trigger a panic attack. There are also some scientific studies that suggest diet could also play a role in anxiety. (But that’s for another post.) It is important to know that panic attacks, while frightening are not dangerous. They feel dangerous because they engage our brain's emergency system which tells us we are in imminent danger.…NOW! But like pulling a fire alarm with no threat of fire, the emergency systems in the brains of folks with panic attacks are issuing false alarms. Which sounds simple enough, but when you are in the middle of an attack it can be overwhelming and debilitating. That is why it is so important for everyone to learn about panic attacks and how to combat them. Common Symptoms of Panic Attacks It is important to first understand what the signs and symptoms are for a panic attack. Not only does this tell you if that is exactly what you are experiencing, but it helps you to recognize the signs early so you can start implementing some coping strategies quickly. The goal is to stop the panic attack before it progresses, since they do tend to worsen over time. Read more on combating panic attacks here. When we are in the “fight or flight” experience of a panic attack, you may experience a set of symptoms, which could vary from episode to episode. Here are a few symptoms people report experiencing:
Symptoms Are Similar to a Heart Attack Many people naturally mistaken the symptoms of a panic attack with a heart attack since they are very similar, right up to the chest pains and dizziness. The problem with this is that even if you know you are having a panic attack, you have an intense worry that all of your current worrying could lead to a heart attack, which then worsens the symptoms of the panic attack! This vicious cycle could then leave you feeling like the panic/worry is leading to an imminent heart attack. This circular thinking can continue and worsen over time unless you are able to stop to it. Thats why it is so important to learn as much as you can about panic attacks and find ways to prevent them.
